The final book in the Rodney Trilogy series, Rodney the Routemaster has a Close Escape traces Rodneys later days in Scotland when amongst other things he helped out the passengers on a broken down train and met other interesting buses. Later he began his slow return to the streets of London via Yorkshire and Derbyshire. During these travels he stayed for some time on a farm before, amongst other things, he worked on special tours and special transport for Sheffield’s World Student Games.
Before his return to London, Rodney was refurbished at Marshall's of Cambridge. Today Rodney can often be found working on heritage service 15 between Trafalgar Square and Tower Hill.
Rodney was later a star attendant at a birthday party held at the National Tramway Museum at Crich, Derbyshire.
